Harry Washington
There's a remarkable article in the New Yorker about slaves during the American revolution. George Washington owned hundreds of slaves, and one of them, Harry Washington, escaped to fight with the British. When the war ended, he fled with them across the Atlantic. At the time, Britain was in the process of abolishing slavery. Perhaps this was more of a motivation for wealthy slaveowners like Washington and Jefferson to revolt, rather than the tax on tea.
