Abraham Lincoln was born Feb. 12, 1809 in Kentucky and died April 15, 1865 in Washington, DC. He was US President from 1861 to 1865. See also Presidents' Day and Civil War.

Art Thieme recorded "In 1861" on his Kicking Mule LP "Songs of the Heartland". "Lincoln and Liberty Too", his campaign song, is on Oscar Brand's Smithsonian/Folkways CD of campaign songs. Shel Silverstein's "Hey, Nelly, Nelly", which Judy Collins recorded Lead Belly "Abraham Lincoln" on, I think, "Bourgeois Blues", a CD on Smithsonian/Folkways. Bascom Lamar Lunsford recorded "Booth Shot Lincoln" for the Library of Congress. Others have recorded it as a fiddle tune, but I think Lunsford is the only one who did the words.
