Kat Bula and Olivia Brownlee

Kat Bula and Olivia Brownlee

With an irreverent respect for tradition, a poet’s aversion to non-load-bearing lyrics, a fearless imagination and an unapologetically older-millennial sensibility, Kat Bula brings a singular voice to contemporary bluegrass and Americana. As a side player/band member, Bula has toured extensively with bands ranging from hardline traditional bluegrass and Western swing, to indie rock and metal. Along the way she’s found opportunities to work with bluegrass legends such as Laurie Lewis, Kathy Kallick, Molly Tuttle, and Missy Raines; cult-folk icon Jason Webley, Celtic-pop outfit The Clumsy Lovers, and math-rock group Rooftops, to name a few. Olivia Brownlee is an unforgettable performer and singer-songwriter with deep roots in early-20th century jazz and cowboy music, as well as a master's degree in theater for social change. Since October 2014, Brownlee has recorded and released a new song every month, each recorded in a different studio. This project, dubbed "Songography" and released through Patreon and Soundcloud, now includes close to 100 songs, each bearing the sonic stamp of the studio it was recorded in and the collaborators involved. Hogshead 21st Birthday

Hogshead 21st Birthday

Happy birthday to a true original! Hogshead Whiskey is distilled with a passing nod to the great Scotch, Irish and Bourbon distillers, before striking off on its own. Boasting a palate-pleasing combination of malty spirit - reminiscent of the malted barley grain that began the process - and the smoky, vanilla sweet-wood that surrounds the spirit until bottling, Hogshead is a rich, amber-hued whiskey.

Fiddle Showcase dedicated to Vivian Williams

Fiddle Showcase dedicated to Vivian Williams

We are planning a special concert in honor of Vivian Williams.  Vivian was one of the founders of the Seattle Folklore Society, an amazing fiddler, composer of tunes, documentarian,  and teacher and mentor to many. She chronicled the traditional music of the Oregon Trail, gold mining camps, and the music of many fiddlers who contributed to the NW music community. Vivian passed away on January 6, 2023 at the age of 84.  More details to come for this event.

Kiki Valera y su Son Cubano

Kiki Valera y su Son Cubano

Son Cubano is a musical genre that originated in the mountains of eastern Cuba and rose in popularity throughout the 20th century. With its Spanish and African origins, call-and-response format, and infectious percussion beats, Son Cubano was a major influence on many other forms of music, from mambo and salsa to jazz and cha-cha-chá. But you can’t talk about Son Cubano without talking about Kiki Valera. Born the oldest son in the famous multigenerational musical family, La Familia Valera Miranda, Valera quite literally grew up living and breathing the deep-rooted musical traditions of eastern Cuba.

The Milk Carton Kids

Completing their seventh studio album was a hard-won victory for The Milk Carton Kids, but I Only See the Moon was worth the effort for Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. “It feels like returning to something that’s natural and comfortable, and also just as inspiring and new as when we first met,” says Pattengale, who formed The Milk Carton Kids with Ryan in 2011.

Casey & Molly, with Dear Crow

Casey Murray & Molly Tucker are a Boston-based folk duo. With Molly on fiddle and Casey on cello, guitar, and banjo, the two play original and traditional tunes in Celtic, New England, and Old Time styles. They spent the first few years of their duo writing tunes and songs from a distance while Casey attended Berklee College of Music and Molly attended Oberlin College and Conservatory. At the start of the pandemic, they graced the screens of virtual dances and performances across the country. They can more recently be found in dance halls, festivals, and listening rooms across New England, including Boston’s premiere folk venue Club Passim and Festival Trad Montréal, delighting audiences and dancers alike with their infectious energy and groove.  Casey and Molly released their debut album After the Sky Weeps in April 2022. ...
