Folk music concerts in Seattle, the Eastside and nearby areas. I was the host of "The Real Folk" on 91.3fm KBCS in Bellevue. The last ten episodes of The Real Folk are still available as podcasts from MixCloud. What is folk music? To me, it's acoustic music with an emphasis on traditional music, songwriting and storytelling, plus music from various cultures. Genres include contemporary singer/songwriter, bluegrass, old-time, Celtic, blues, roots, Americana, and more. This calendar is scraped from the websites of local presenters and venues. Calendar entries cannot be submitted directly, only by the presenters and venues themselves when they post them on their calendars. Some venues don't have online calendars, or have ones that are too difficult to scrape. I include as many as I can. Comments?

Born and raised in Los Angeles, CA It was not until after graduating high school and moving to Fremont, NE, to attend Midland University on scholarship for football that Tyler began to pursue his passion for music with vigor. After graduating, he relocated to Seattle, WA in the summer of 2017, where he currently resides and has been making impressive leaps and bounds in his songwriting, performing, and overall musical identity during his time in the PNW. His creative spin on past and present experiences breeds songs that lyrically offer a sensationalized window into his life. Tyler boasts powerful vocal performances that mix rich styles of Americana and Alternative Country music with Southern Rock and a fresh twist of soulful melodies. His music will have you singing along to a good time drinking song, reminiscing about long lost love and the regretful or questionable choices of your past, then leave you feeling uplifted, refreshed, and in an all around good mood.

Great Comet, the Americana-tinged indie rock project of songwriter Aaron New, has always been a study in motion, but with the release of the sonically expansive second album, Stranger Land, that motion has found a new direction-a deliberate journey through the spaces between. The album is a powerful document of life on the road, of experiencing lasting love alongside devastating loss, and finding a home in the hushed moments of a world seen through a van window. Though the performance pushes into electrifying new territory, the project remains grounded in New's Appalachian roots, blending a reverence for classic storytelling with a modern indie edge. Stranger Land is more than an album; it's the title of an ongoing story, capturing a pivotal moment for a project defined by change and proving that for Great Comet, the destination is still unknown, but the path forward has never been more compelling.

As described by a concertgoer, “this powerhouse quintet wows listeners with a luscious and exciting sound, at times five instruments sharing one voice, and others a dynamic orchestra of harmony. McNally and Pearlman have performed as a duo for over a decade, making their mark at legendary stages like Newport Folk Festival, playing to buoyant festival plazas in Spain and England, all while maintaining ties to home by leading monthly community sessions at the storied Canadian-American Club in Boston. They’ve often teamed up in larger outfits like New England powerhouse Pine Tree Flyers and Gàidhlig-language unit Fàrsan and their intimate duo show reflects a deep musical trust and intuition built on years of these varied collaborations. Both were 2025 Shannon Artists-in-Residence at Beinn Mhàbu in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and are co-Artistic Directors of Groton Hill’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration.
