Son Cubano is a musical genre that originated in the mountains of eastern Cuba and rose in popularity throughout the 20th century. With its Spanish and African origins, call-and-response format, and infectious percussion beats, Son Cubano was a major influence on many other forms of music, from mambo and salsa to jazz and cha-cha-chá. But you can’t talk about Son Cubano without talking about Kiki Valera. Born the oldest son in the famous multigenerational musical family, La Familia Valera Miranda, Valera quite literally grew up living and breathing the deep-rooted musical traditions of eastern Cuba.

Completing their seventh studio album was a hard-won victory for The Milk Carton Kids, but I Only See the Moon was worth the effort for Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan. “It feels like returning to something that’s natural and comfortable, and also just as inspiring and new as when we first met,” says Pattengale, who formed The Milk Carton Kids with Ryan in 2011.

Modern acoustic. Singer/songwriter. Contemporary folk. Carl Tosten is a musician whose style defies easy classification. With his strong and soulful voie and an eclectic and expressive guitar technique that includes percussion, tapping, multiple open tunings and capos, Tosten has been called an "acoustic one-man band". His introspective and thoughtful lyrics speak to us individually as well as collectively with his observations on society, the complexities of living, and love. Classical and jazzy overtones elevate his original compositions to a level more sophisticated than simply "folk", and his live performances are filled with intense energy, stories, and songs that captivate and inspire his audience.
