t’s hard to categorize my music, although it usually ends up in the Jazz record bins,” says Michael. “If I had to put a label on it, I would call it contemporary instrumental music. It’s a sound rooted in the Jazz tradition that keeps pace stylistically with Pop, R&B, and Blues; with Blues being at the core of my inspiration.”

Learn a tune with Kalos

Learn a tune with Kalos

We hosted a show with Kalos a while ago and it was absolutely phenomenal. They're in town for a show at Ballard Homestead but we have the honor of hosting a workshop with them on the following day. Come learn a tune with some incredible masters of traditional music. Headland, the title of Kalos’ latest release, refers to the dreamlike place between the land and the sea, which Kalos explores through their music. In this workshop, we will learn a tune and navigate this space together through arrangement. We will start with instruction on melody and backing, and then join together for discussion and arranging. Open to all instruments. Please purchase a ticket in advance: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/6286061 11am - $30

Hank Cramer

Hank Cramer

Hank Cramer is one of the best-loved folksingers in the American West. He is widely known for his booming bass voice, smooth picking on a vintage flat-top guitar, and his wry sense of humor. He has a repertoire of over a thousand modern and traditional songs, spanning the genres of celtic, appalachian, maritime, cowboy, and plain old folk music. He is more than simply a performer, however. He is a historian and educator who weaves music and history into presentations which bring to life the rich story of America’s westward movement, and give his audiences insight into the “folk process” by which traditional songs evolve and change to describe new events.

Her Etc.

Her Etc.

Born in 2000 at Triad Studios in Redmond, Washington, Her etc. band ebbs and flows with time, spirit, and creativity. Self-described as experimental, Her etc. is inspired by many that have come before with roots stemming from folk, blues, bluegrass, funk, country, rock, and jazz. Whatever the voices in the band's "brain stew" say -- that is what is created. In the end, Her etc. band with Kim Dietz, Jeff Crookall, and Dan Gillespie is just a bunch of oddballs that love music!
